- The American Heritage by Rail Tour. This involves several nights' hotel stays as the train makes stops in such cities as Boston, Washington, D.C., and New York. The highpoints of the tour include stops in some of America's earliest destinations.

The Amtrak Auto Train, for example, is often used by vacationers to get from the Washington, D.C., area to Central Florida with their car in tow.
