Amtrak Sleeping Accommodations
Passengers traveling on Amtrak's long-distance routes can hang up their boots and enjoy a great night's sleep in Amtrak's sleeping accommodations. And that is because Amtrak offers passengers a choice of accommodations equipped with comfortable bedrooms, some of which are even large enough to accommodate four adults.
Types of Sleeping Accommodations
Typically, Amtrak's sleeping accommodations come in two types – the two-level Superliner and the one-level Viewliner.
The 2-level Superliner sleeping car features Roomettes (2 adults) and family bedrooms (2 adults, 2 children), both of which do not have attached toilets and showers. However, the bedrooms (2 adults) and the bedroom suite (4 adults) are equipped with in-house toilets and showers. Additionally, there are accessible bedrooms (2 adults) available too, which are equipped with a toilet, but do not have an in-room shower.
The 1-level Viewliner sleeping car features Roomettes (2 adults) that have an in-room toilet. There are bedrooms (2 adults) and bedroom suites (4 adults), too, both of which are equipped with in-room showers along with the in-room toilet. The accessible bedrooms are also available in the Viewliner class.
Bedrooms on both the Superliner and Viewliner cars have a large window, with Viewliners featuring 2 windows at the bunk level.
If you are traveling on the Superliner car, it is recommended that you book the Sightseer Lounge Car as it has the best windows and views.
Practical Tips for Amtrak's Sleeping Accommodations
- Sleeping car accommodation prices vary according to customer demand. Therefore, it is always better to book early to get the lowest price.
- No one train features both the Viewliner and Superliner accommodations. It is either one or the other.
- Most passengers prefer sleeping accommodation on the Superliner. However, many passengers felt that a Viewliner sways less and offers more headroom.
- The Superliner sleeping cars are more spacious than the Viewliner cars. But, since they feature two-level rooms, they are far more crowded.
Amtrak's passengers have their opinions and more practical information on both the sleeping accommodations. So, if you need any more information than what we have presented above, run a search on your favorite search engine and read the message boards, which are oh-so-full of opinions and tips.
In any case, have a great journey and enjoy your ride.
