Looking
for a moving company? Moving companies now compete
more than ever for your business. However, ask
most people what their first thoughts about moving are,
and their first words are likely to be stressful.
Preparing for a move may seem like an overwhelming process.
Believing that your home is your castle, we strive to provide you with
moving companies that meet our high standards. That's why every moving company that we work with is licensed and
insured, whether they are local, national or international
movers
Moving Terminology
There are two major types of
moves as far as distance goes: local moves and long distance moves. A local
move is when a person moves to a different location
within the same state. Every moving company presents
their companys menu to the States Department of
Transportation. It's a common sense moving tip to compare
the prices and services of different moving companies, as the
range and services may vary dramatically.
A long distance move is one in which you are relocating from one state
to another, regardless of the distance. Such moves may also be referred to as state to state moves or interstate moves.
They are less regulated than local moves, so it's important to be as thorough as possible when determining
what will be moved.
There are two main types of
moves as far as packing goes, a Full Pack Move and a Regular Move.
A Full Pack Move occurs when the movers are responsible
for packing all of your items and for supplying the moving
boxes.
A Regular Move occurs when you have everything
prepared in advance for the movers. When the movers
arrive, it's helpful to have everything clearly labeled.
This will benefit you immensely when you're unpacking. All packing should be completed before
the movers arrive, as you're bound to be preoccupied with last
minute details.
Choosing Items to Move
One of the hardest decisions
is choosing which items to move and which to dispose of or leave behind. Before you can make such decisions, it's critical to know the size
of the new locations. Not only is it frustrating,
it can be very costly to move items you don't really need or that may be too large for your new location. It may
seem trivial, but the more specific you are, the smoother
your move will go.
Getting Estimates
Another of the common sense moving tips is to contact different
moving companies to determine which mover best suits
your needs. Moving companies lack standardization
in both their services and their prices, so it's important
to call around. For example, one company may charge
a flat rate while another charges by the person
and hour. Prepare a detailed list of the items
that need to be moved. Many companies have a professional
moving consultant who will work with you in customizing
a moving plan and provide additional moving tips based on your unique situation.
It's critical
that you provide the moving company with an accurate
list of items to be moved. One of the biggest
challenges moving companies face is when customers forget
to include items the movers have to handle. Especially on long
distances moves, moving companies coordinate several
moves using the same truck and movers. Keep in
mind that if you decide to take more items or take fewer
items the total cost of your move will change.
